The Daily Spell is an original fantasy story told via newspaper headlines from a world full of magical familiars, glyph-scribing arcanists, and drama between factions. It ran as a daily puzzle between Nov 2025-Mar 2026 with a new dropquote puzzle and article per day. The whole story is now available to play.

The Yliad Arc of the Daily Spell is complete and playable on both itch and the site. Over on the site, the daily puzzles continue with Volume 2, which is serializing Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest.

📝 How to play

The Daily Spell is a drop quote puzzle. Letters are organized by column and dropped into the right row to spell words. Completing the headline reveals that day's news article.

Mobile players: in portrait mode, you can scroll horizontally to complete the puzzle, or try playing in landscape mode.

📘 Saving progress

As you play, your progress and completion times are saved to browser local storage. Depending on what happens in the browser, this can be lost unexpectedly. In case of losing saved data or changing devices, you can use the Reveal past puzzles options under Settings -> Manage data.

⚠️ In Safari, local storage won't be saved when playing on itch, so play on the-daily-spell.com instead.
